The History of KDP
-
In 1909, it started out as the "Illinois Education Club" with 5 members.
-
In 1911, the club then became Kappa Delta Pi chosen from the Greek words to represent "knowledge," "duty," and "power."
-
In 1925, the Laureate chapter was created to recognize exceptional living educators. John Dewey was the first member. Other members have included Jean Piaget, Howard Gardner, Eleanor Roosevelt, George Washington Carver, and Albert Einstein.*
-
Kappa Delta Pi now has more than 625 chapters internationally.
-
Our local branch at SIUE is the SIUE KDP Lambda Theta chapter (started in 1967), and we have been recognized for excellence with the KDP Achieving Chapter Excellence (ACE) Awards four times in recent history (in 2009, 2013, 2015, and 2018).
-
